Hamworthy Park’s newly refurbished paddling pool is once again making waves in the community as it opens to the public today (Tuesday 30 July).

Visited by generations of families, the original paddling pool has been a much-loved attraction at the park since its construction in 1931. Following major investment and a complete overhaul of the pool, it will continue to give families, residents and visitors an opportunity to have fun in the sun and create new memories for the future.

The refurbishment work included:

  • the demolition and removal of the original base
  • installation of a new reinforced concrete slab and wall, fitting within the existing area, and new coping stones around the edges
  • boring of 114 reinforced concrete piles to support the new foundations
  • relocation of the beach slope feature to the west of the pool to improve water quality

Cllr Felicity Rice, Cabinet Member for the Environment and Climate Change, BCP Council, said: "This popular paddling pool has provided endless family fun over the last 80+ years. It’s great to see that it has now been extensively refurbished and reopened so that it can be enjoyed by future generations to come.

"Having such a great free attraction on your doorstep means that residents and visitors can really make the most of the natural environment and beautiful surroundings that we are lucky enough to call home. They can also increase their health and wellbeing by being active and enjoying quality family time.

"Thank you to all the ward councillors and the Friends of Hamworthy Park for making this happen."
