BCP Council Cabinet approves plans for a new Disabled Tax-Exempt Vehicle Parking Permit scheme

Proposals for implementing a fair and consistent Disabled Tax-Exempt Vehicle (DTEV) permit scheme across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole have been approved by BCP Council's Cabinet (11 September 2019).

The permit schemes set up by the preceding councils offered free parking in all council owned pay and display car parks for DTEV permit holders in the three separate towns. Whilst the schemes in the preceding councils were similar there were some key differences around charging which needed to be addressed.

There are approximately 3,800 DTEV permit holders across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.

The proposals approved by BCP Council’s Cabinet Members will standardise a £25 a year permit across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. An amendment was also approved to issue a free DTEV permit to those applicants in receipt of Council Tax Support.

Fees will be used to cover the cost of administration and enforcement of the scheme. Active legacy permits will be recognised across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole and allowed to expire before a single new permit would need to be purchased.

By providing free permits to those who receive council tax support benefits, we will ensure the most vulnerable people in our local area are protected. Permit holders will benefit from being able to use their permits to park across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole for the first time.”
