Safety cameras and interactive speed signs
Safety cameras and interactive speed signs are used to reduce speed and casualties across Dorset.
Safety cameras
Safety cameras are deployed and managed by Dorset Roadsafe. Their website has information and up-to-date listings of all likely camera locations.
Speed indicator device programme
Speed indicator devices (SIDs) raise driver awareness of local speed limits and are proven to reduce traffic speeds at appropriate locations.
If you would like to know more about the SID programme, please email TEnghelpdesk@bcpcouncil.gov.uk.
Interactive speed signs
Across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, we use interactive speed signs as a way to remind drivers keep their speed down in residential areas. They show the speed limit and the words "slow down" to any vehicle going over the speed limit.
Some of these signs are mobile, so we can put them where they are most needed. We select suitable sites where there have been complaints of speeding. The signs stay on one site for around one to three weeks, as research shows this is the most effective length of time to change driver behaviour.
If you'd like to suggest a site for our speed signs, please email TEnghelpdesk@bcpcouncil.gov.uk.
