Child Development

Children's Personal, Social, Emotional, Development (PSED) is central to all aspects of their learning and development, throughout their early years, school life and lifelong learning.

Children need to feel acknowledged and supported by the important people in their lives. This helps them to interact with others and form positive relationships. Having the support they need in their early years enables children to feel free to express ideas and feelings and cope with new or stressful situations.

Public Health England (PHE) have produced a guide to Promote children and young people's wellbeing that helps keep children safe, assist with their development and provides a path to positive outcomes into adulthood.

Mental health plays a key role in a child's overall wellbeing and can be affected by several factors, including:

  • environment
  • self-awareness
  • self-efficacy
  • self-belief
  • recognizing and managing emotions
  • relationship building
  • empathy
  • compassion
