The Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council local elections have resulted in no overall control, with the largest number of seats held by the Liberal Democrat party.

Liberal Democrats won 28 seats, the next largest party was Conservatives with 12, followed by Labour, Christchurch Independents, the Green Party, Poole People, Poole Engage and five Independent candidates.

The total seats now held on Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council are:

Christchurch Independents – 8

Conservative Party – 12

Green Party – 5

Independents – 5

Labour Party – 11

Liberal Democrat – 28

Poole Engage – Action not Words – 2

Poole People – Independent and Local – 5

Following yesterday’s polling day, verification of votes took place from 10am today.

Counting of votes began around noon and the first result was announced at 12.45pm, with the Grange ward of Christchurch Town Council declared.

The final ward of East Cliff and Springbourne was announced at 5.15pm.

Voter turnout was 30.62%, with the highest percentage of voters in the Highcliffe and Walkford ward, with 44.05%.

Returning Officer for the BCP Council Elections was BCP Chief Executive Graham Farrant.

Following today’s result, the first Council meeting will take place on 23 May.

The new leader of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council will be elected at this meeting, and a new Cabinet will subsequently be formed.

Council services, including bin collections, will carry on as normal in the interim period.
