A primary school pupil from Bournemouth is celebrating being named one of eleven winners in a UK-wide design competition.
Hanna, aged 5 from Malmesbury Park Primary School, Bournemouth entered the WOW badge design competition from Living Streets, the UK charity for everyday walking.
Working in partnership with BCP Council, WOW is Living Streets’ award-winning walk to school challenge which sees children who walk, wheel, cycle, scoot or park and stride to school at least once a week rewarded with collectable badges each month, designed by pupils in a UK-wide competition.
This year’s theme was ‘Walk through time’, taking pupils back in time to explore millions of years of history on earth. Pupils were encouraged to research a historic period or event and depict it as a WOW badge.
Hanna, who chose to create a colourful Egyptian hieroglyphics design, said:
"I wanted my badge to be Egyptian because I think hieroglyphics are really beautiful. I love walking to school and I can’t wait to collect all 11 badges!".
Hanna’s design has now been turned into one of the monthly badges and will be awarded to pupils in over 1,500 schools across the UK who travel actively to school during November 2022.

"WOW is a great way to help keep children healthy and happy by encouraging them to be active every day. More children walking to school also means fewer cars around the school gates – making them safer and cleaner places.
"Children love taking part in WOW and collecting the recyclable badges. This year, we were looking for engaging, fun and colourful depictions of ‘Walk through time’ – and the winning designs certainly delivered.

"I’d like to congratulate Hanna on her brilliant winning entry which will feature on badges worn by school children across the country who take part in this year’s walk to school campaign.
"Travelling actively to school is a great way to instil life-long healthy habits and reduce congestion in our conurbation and we’re looking forward to more schools across BCP taking part in the initiative."
