Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole have been listed in this year’s highly acclaimed CDP A List of Cities, with BCP Council named as a leading international authority for environmental transparency and action against climate change.
The prestigious accolade, which has just been announced, confirms that BCP Council has been awarded the highest score possible for its efforts to manage its environmental impact.
BCP Council is just one of 11 authorities in the whole of the UK which made the A List of Cities by CDP- a not for profit charity.
Cllr Philip Broadhead, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Development, Growth and Regeneration, said: "I’m incredibly proud to see BCP Council part of this international list of authorities who are leading the way in tackling climate change.
"The world’s economy looks to CDP as the gold standard for environmental reporting. This award strengthens our international position, whilst also being a positive affirmation for our residents and businesses who are also playing their part in supporting our climate action initiatives. We aim to be a world-class city region and one of the best coastal places in the world to live, work, invest and play, and being a leader in climate action sets us apart and helps us on our way to achieve this goal."
BCP Council is joined by 95 other authorities across the world to form the world’s A List of Cities.
Cllr Mike Greene, Portfolio Holder for Sustainability and Transport, said "This is great news for our residents and visitors and I’m proud that our efforts have been recognised on an international stage. Climate action remains a priority and I’m proud that we are delivering such positive changes, whilst keeping climate change at the heart of so much of our decision making.
"COP26 gave us an opportunity to look back at the positive steps we have made recently, which include significant works to replace timber groynes along our coastline and increasing our Bikeability offer for an additional 2000 school children in the area. I’m now looking forward to leading and supporting our residents, visitors and businesses over the coming years, whilst delivering real change to benefit our locality and the wider world."
