Cllr Phillip Broadhead & Cllr Lawrence Williams at the TCF works in Kings Park

Collaboration between two major BCP Council projects is underway with 3.1km of ducting for gigabit fibre (part of the council’s Smart Place programme) currently being laid at sites where sustainable travel improvements (part of the council’s Transforming Cities Fund programme) are also in progress.

Councillor Philip Broadhead, BCP Council’s deputy leader and portfolio holder for development, growth and regeneration visited Kings Park, Bournemouth to see ducting for gigabit fibre being installed during the excavation works for the new walking and cycle paths currently under construction. He said:

"It’s great to see the council’s project teams working really well together, planning ahead and co-ordinating work on two major infrastructure projects to ensure we achieve efficiencies, productivity and value for money. We managed to bring forward the ducting work needed for gigabit fibre installation and take advantage of the excavation work already planned as part of the sustainable travel routes being built at Kings Park. We hope to do this at other locations across the region, creating synergies for both projects as well as minimising disruption to the public."

Locations where Smart Place ducting is currently being laid as part of open excavation work for the Transforming Cities Fund programme include:

  • Kings Park, Bournemouth
  • Magna Road, Poole

Additional gigabit fibre ducting will be laid as part of other Transforming Cities Fund routes over the next 12-18 months.
