Report a stray dog

A dog is stray when it’s out by itself, or is away from an owner for a long time. We must make sure no dog is left without a home.

If the stray is in your care

If you can't care for the dog we will try our best to help.

We may be able to send a dog warden to collect the dog, or we may tell you about a reception centre where you can take the dog.

A vet may be able to scan the dog for a microchip and find out more about them.

If you have a stray dog in your care please report it online or call us on 01202 123 789.

Out of hours

Our working hours are 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday, and we are not available to collect a dog on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year's Day. If you rescue a dog outside of our open hours, you need to keep the dog safe and contained until we can come and get it. You can call 08000 281 870 to let us know.

Please keep the dog in a safe and secure garden, small building (such as a shed) or in your home until the dog warden arrives. The dog must have access to water.

If you saw a stray

If you see a stray dog but you weren't able to keep it contained in your home, please report it to us anyway as an owner may have been in contact.

However, we can only send a warden out to help if you have the dog contained and under control on a lead or rope.
