Facilities and buoyage

Facilities

We operate a marine patrol service all year round. However, waterborne hours are limited during the winter months. The primary focus of the service is to ensure the safety of water users and assist with the general smooth running of the harbour.

The service crew have authority to enforce local byelaws and they work alongside Dorset Police Marine Section on crime prevention and enforcement initiatives.

The Hengistbury Head NCI station is located 36 metres above the harbour on the top of Warren Hill. With views across the harbour and the bay, from Swanage to the Needles, the station can monitor all vessels in the area and provide actual weather conditions.

Buoyage

Full buoyage within the harbour and harbour entrance is provided by the Christchurch Harbour Association. A levy of £12 is included in each mooring fee to cover their costs.
