Carer's assessment

If you’re over 18 and provide regular unpaid care for someone, you’re entitled to a carer’s assessment.

If you are under 18, request an assessment as a young carer.

A carer's assessment is a voluntary confidential conversation we have with you to discuss the support you provide, how it affects you and what we can do to help. It can be done at a time and place that suits you, the person you care for does not have to be there.

The assessment will cover:

  • your role as a carer
  • how you feel about caring
  • whether you’re able or willing to carry on as a carer
  • your health
  • your work
  • other caring responsibilities
  • what you enjoy doing in your free time
  • planning for emergencies
