Report financial abuse of an older or vulnerable adult

Call 999 if you are reporting a crime that is in progress or if someone is in immediate danger.

This could be someone stealing money or other valuables from an older or vulnerable adult.

It might be that someone appointed to look after your money on your behalf is using it inappropriately or coercing you to spend it in a way you're not happy with.

Internet scams and doorstep crime are also common forms of financial abuse.

How to report financial abuse

Contact us if you think someone is at risk or is being financially abused.

Alternatively, contact Dorset police if you think a crime has been committed.

Signs of financial abuse

You may see one or several signs of abuse. This could include:

  • the person not having as much much money as they usually do
  • a bank statement showing money being spent in unexpected ways for the person in question
  • the person having unexplained amounts of money being removed from their bank account
  • a decline in the person's living conditions
  • the person getting into debt
  • the person being unable to pay for reasonable living costs, bills or health checks
  • a sudden change to who deals with a person's finances
