Revitalising the high street Smart Place use case

BCP Smart Place use case: Revitalising the High Street - YouTube

Use case overview

To support the revitalisation of the high street by using augmented reality, specifically by creating UX and gamification strategies.

The challenge

Our aim was to change the high street retail experience into an immersive visitor experience. The retail sector, and high streets more broadly, are undergoing unprecedented change across the country. We needed to think innovatively, using digital technology we wanted to trial new initiatives and projects that can have a direct impact on revitalising high streets across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.

This augmented reality solution, developed by local companies, is an innovative way of attracting people of all ages to our shopping areas, encouraging businesses to establish and helps to breathe life back into our town centres.

The solution includes wayfinding via augmented reality sea characters and the opportunity to learn about the history of the area. The concept will also aesthetically improve high streets by installing vivid window vinyl’s on empty shops to promote and trigger the app.
