BCP Council under a new administration following leadership vote

Posted on Friday 2 October 2020

Conservative group leader Councillor Drew Mellor has been elected as the new Leader of BCP Council at last night’s Extraordinary Council Meeting

The outcome of the ballot was 40 votes for Councillor Drew Mellor, 33 for Councillor Vikki Slade and 1 abstention.

It means the council remains in no overall control but the ruling administration has changed from one led by the Unity Alliance to one led by the Conservatives.

It follows the vote of no confidence in former Leader Councillor Vikki Slade, held on September 15.

Councillor Drew Mellor will announce his new Cabinet structure next week.

The next meeting of the BCP Council’s Cabinet is due to take place on Wednesday 28 October.
