Apply for a secondary or upper school place

Applying for a school place for September 2022

You have the right to express a preference for the school you'd prefer your child to attend in September 2022.

The published closing date for admission to a secondary or upper school is 31 October 2021.

You must apply to the local authority where you live, even if the schools you are applying for are in another area.

All late applications after the closing date must be made using the paper form.

Applying on faith grounds

There are a number of faith schools within Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole that require proof of religious commitment to be considered under their faith criteria. If you are applying for one of the following schools, you can visit their website to download a copy or contact them for a copy of their supplementary information form (SIF):

  • St Edward’s RC CE VA School
  • St Peter’s School
  • The Bishop of Winchester Academy.

You need to ask your priest or minister to complete and return it directly to the school by the published closing date.

If you are thinking of applying to a faith school in another local authority, please check their website and policy to find out if they require completion of their own SIF.

If you do not return a completed SIF by the published closing date your application will still be processed but the SIF will not be taken into account.

Due the COVID-19 pandemic, many places of worship have not been open to the public, meaning people have not been able to attend as they normally would. As a result, the Department for Education has issued guidance to schools who require evidence of religious practice, asking them to amend their admission policies to allow for this situation. It is important that you read the admission policy of any school you wish to apply for to see whether their policy has changed.

Applying on service premium grounds

If you wish to apply for a place on service premium grounds, you must download and complete a Service Premium Supplementary Information Form (SIF)

You need to complete and return it to our school admissions team by the published closing date.

If you do not return a completed SIF by the published closing date, your application will still be processed but the SIF will not be taken into account. 

Applications received after the published closing dates will be processed after all the on time applications. This may mean that regularly oversubscribed schools are full before late applications are considered.
