Government grant win means a greater frequency bus service between Bournemouth and Broadstone.
BCP Council and Morebus have announced a significant improvement to the route 18 bus service, which runs to and from Broadstone, through Waterloo Estate, Canford Heath, Foxholes Estate, Newtown and Sea View, Upper Parkstone, Westbourne and Bournemouth town centre.

Great Progress made on sustainable travel improvements along Queen Anne Drive / Magna Road, Poole
The Transforming Cities Fund (TCF) project along Queen Anne Drive and Magna Road in north Poole has made good progress with the initial phases of work completed. The sustainable travel route has now been opened for use and runs for 3.7 kilometres from the junction of Queen Anne Drive and Gravel Hill all the way to Knighton Lane at the western entrance to Bearwood.
Planning application for new walking and cycling bridges over the railway line on Glenferness Avenue approved
A planning application by BCP Council for walking and cycling improvements to the bridge across the railway line on Glenferness Avenue has been approved. A new walking and cycling bridge will be built over the railway line to the west of the road bridge, and on the east side a new wider bridge able to accommodate both walkers and cyclists will replace the existing footbridge. The road bridge itself will remain unaltered.

The new sustainable travel route, funded by the south east Dorset Transforming Cities Fund (TCF), has created new, separate walking and cycling paths across the length of Kings Park from the Ashley Road entrance to the new toucan crossing on Harewood Avenue.

The UK’s leading micromobility provider, Beryl, is set to offer users in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole even more forms of sustainable travel. From Friday 22 July, Beryl will be providing 20 e-bikes for use across the existing scheme area.

BCP Council, Public Health Dorset (PHD) and walking and cycling charity Sustrans have joined forces to run a campaign to teach children (and their families) about air pollution, what causes it and how it can be reduced. The main focus of this campaign is to raise awareness of the impact of leaving a car’s engine running when parked (idling), especially outside schools, with the aim of improving the quality of local air.

Pupils across the UK travel the equivalent of 110 times around the world during Sustrans’ Big Walk and Wheel competition
Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel, the UK’s largest walking, wheeling, cycling and scooting to school challenge, saw school communities across the UK complete over 2.2 million active journeys and physical activities between Monday 21 March and Friday 1 April 2022. During the competition, over 7,700 school children from Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole (BCP) were walking, cycling, wheeling and scooting, contributing over 35,000 journeys and physical activities to the total.

BCP Council Secures Further Central Government Funding for Encouraging Cycling and Walking.
BCP Council has been successful in securing an extra £247,000 grant from Central Government to help encourage cycling and walking in the conurbation. The money has been awarded from the Department for Transport’s Capability Fund and is ringfenced specifically for activities that promote active travel.
