An update on the School Streets pilot
At the beginning of April 2022, Issy Riding, Sustrans School Streets Officer, said:
"All four of our School Streets pilots are progressing well including at Hamworthy Park Juniors, St Michael's School, & St Clements & St Johns Infant School. We are receiving positive feedback from the four sites; welcoming the safer, friendlier, and more relaxed environment outside the school gates.
"A highlight is seeing everyone enjoying the space outside schools, running, scooting and cycling up the road and chatting to their friends in a safe environment. One of the parents also reported that because of the scheme they not only leave the car at home for the school run now, but they have started cycling themselves again too.
“Limiting motorised vehicle access for pick up and drop off times helps to tackle congestion, encourages more active travel and improves air quality too.”
