Theme 5: physically connected community

The Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area is one of the most congested highway networks nationally. Last year the council declared a climate and ecological emergency and encouraging people to use sustainable modes of travel is a priority.

Car use and transport

Boscombe has a high number of car movements through the area yet the ward of Boscombe West has one of the lowest levels of car ownership in the BCP Council area.

Sustainable travel improvements

We will develop a number of projects aimed at improving access by means other than the car. We will improve bus access to Boscombe pier, improve signage to AFC Bournemouth, introduce more cycle lanes and make walking safer.

Pokesdown station

South Western Railway (SWR) are partners of the project linked to their franchise commitment for accessibility improvements within the Pokesdown station building. We are developing a separate project to compliment this by improving the surrounding environment and approach to the station for buses, cyclists and pedestrians including highways improvements prioritising active travel.
