Future High Streets Fund (FHSF)

A bid for up to £25million of funding to deliver transformational change in Poole High Street has been submitted by BCP Council to government.

Poole was one of the first 50 successful areas shortlisted to develop plans to reinvent their high streets.

What is our aim for this bid?

This funding bid presents an opportunity to rejuvenate Poole High Street and attract more people to visit the town centre. Our local high streets face the same challenges as town centres nationally and Poole High Street has particular challenges due to its length and the need for regeneration more widely in the town centre.

As we work towards developing a wider town centre masterplan, a preferred option has been submitted to Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) to enhance our vision for Poole

The preferred option will increase footfall on the High Street, through repurposing and diversifying its offer and enhancing the vibrancy and vitality of the area. This will attract more visitors and residents to the High Street to visit, live and work.

Proposed plans

Proposals include:

  • the addition of a covered market
  • community space
  • additional housing
  • de-trafficking measures
  • improvements in infrastructure
  • placemaking
  • improved public realm

Next steps

We expect MHCLG to make funding decisions in autumn. At that time, we will make announcements on the way forward with this project and with further information for how to be involved should we be successful in our bid.
