Poole streetlamps

  • In addition, lamp posts have been repainted with the town’s Coat of Arms highlighted in gold paint

    • Ongoing

As part of this project there will also be significant improvements to the quality of the wall-mounted lights in the High Street:

  • the new lights will have a design that is more sympathetic to the Conservation Area and streetscene

  • the opportunity will be taken to ensure the wall-mounted lighting is positioned, as far as is practical, at a uniform height on the buildings – about 6m

  • currently these lights are positioned at different heights. Placing the lights at 6m will ensure an even spread of light and ensure compliance with British Standard 5489-1

  • the new lights will also have a colour temperature of 2,700 kelvin, which will also address ecological issues regarding bats, where a temperature below 3,000 kelvin is required

  • the new lights will deliver a 75% saving in energy usage and cost and a 6.75 tonne saving in carbon per year

Scaplen’s Court Works ongoing

In December 2022, planning permission and Listed Building Consent was granted for remodelling and alterations to Scaplen’s Court (as part of Poole Museum’s Our Museum project) including relocation of the Museum café from Poole Museum to the ground floor of Scaplen’s Court, new modern entrance doors, a new timber fire escape stair and landing to the rear, a new accessible external lift and new staircase replacing the existing staircase structure in the courtyard to provide access to all levels, a conservation focused upgrade, and improved accessibility throughout the museum and garden

The late 15th and early 16th Century internal walls, fireplaces and doorways have also been cleaned and re-pointed and an original wattle and daub wall panel is being restored.
