Poole Park Railway works out to tender

BCP Council is investing up to £350,000 to secure the long-term future of the much-loved Poole Park Railway, with tenders for the track, engine shed and rolling stock now live.

The railway – which has been in Poole Park since 1949 – was suspended in 2018 following growing complications with the service. Plans to reopen it in time for Summer 2020 include several enhancements to the service, with:

  • a redesigned and relayed track
  • a brand-new train and carriages
  • improved access and safety features
  • improvements to the train shed and storage compound

Planning permission for the demolition and replacement of the existing Engine Shed was previously granted in August. When the service reopens, it will be managed by BCP Council staff working alongside dedicated local volunteer enthusiasts.

The closing date for the current tenders, which can be viewed through the online ‘Supplying the South West’ portal (www.supplyingthesouthwest.org.uk), is 5 December, with the successful tenders being announced in the New Year.
