Our parks team deliver services to approximately 400,000 residents in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole across parks and nature reserves that cover over 2,500 hectares of land.
Last year, BCP Council (in partnership with Bournemouth Parks Foundation) was selected as one of nine areas across the UK to receive a share of £11 million worth of funding and advice from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, National Trust and Ministry for Housing, communities and local government.
We were chosen because both our parks teams and the Bournemouth Parks Foundation have a track record for delivering innovative and inspirational projects.
The Future Parks Accelerator (FPA) grant is intended to help us make strategic changes that improve and maintain our parks over the long term rather than make specific capital improvements to individual green spaces. It allows us to research the best ideas internationally, test them locally and learn from the National Trust and other organisations across the country.
The lockdown changed our relationship with our green spaces, both highlighting their value and introducing more people to their benefits.
We look forward to building upon this interest and continuing to develop wonderful places in which to explore, play, volunteer and meet up while simultaneously helping to tackle the climate and ecological emergency.
