Employing children of statutory school age

Having a part-time job can be a great experience for young people (aged 13-16). However, in the light of the Government guidance to ‘stay at home’ BCP Council strongly advises that children of statutory school age should not go to work until the Government have confirmed that it is safe to return to ‘normal’ life.

We have consulted with the Department of Education and they have advised that children of statutory school age are not classed as key workers.

We would like to draw this to the attention of all business which currently remain open such as newsagents (newspaper/leaflet deliveries), shops, takeaways, children’s nurseries, vets and care homes.
