Marriages And Civil Partnerships - Weddings
Small wedding and civil partnership ceremonies are now allowed to take place.
This relates to ceremonies ONLY and large receptions or parties should not be taking place. See point 2.8 of the FAQs on the GOV.UK website and point 3 of the 31 July announcement for full information.
Government guidance for small marriages and civil partnerships states that up to 30 people, but no more, can attend a marriage or civil partnership - and only where this can be safely accomodated with social distancing in a COVID-19 secure venue. The guidance details who should be included when calculating the 30 attendees.
We have risk assessed our rooms where we conduct ceremonies and the numbers will be limited as follows to ensure appropriate social distancing is maintained.
In addition to the registrars:
- The Register Office & Room 1837 – the couple plus 2 attendees
- The Willows & the main hall in The Guildhall – the couple plus 16 attendees.
Face coverings are required in places of worship. This includes guests at wedding or civil partnership ceremonies. Face coverings will not have to be worn by the bride or groom and can be removed where required for the ceremony.
If your ceremony is later in the year, we will need to be mindful of the government guidance in place at that time - which may be different to the present guidance.
