Social distancing guide - keep left and keep your distance
We're working to put measures in place to help you maintain social distancing in public spaces, as our town centres start to reopen.
Keep left and keep your distance
We're asking people to "keep left" as well as "keep your distance", to support social distancing.
Signs have been placed on lamp columns, stuck to bins, placed on the ground and wrapped around pedestrian bollards.
We've worked with businesses across the area to offer support, guidance and resources on how to keep customers safe.
How keep left will work
This tried and tested format will be placed on all footpaths and in pedestrian areas, as well as at road crossing points, on the beach promenade and on beach zig-zags.
People will need to keep to the left hand side in the direction they are travelling, so that people walking in the opposite direction will pass them on the right.
When and where we are placing signs
The signs will be rolled out in two phases.
In Phase 1 we will concentrate on the main town centres in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. We will also place signs in large district areas such as Boscombe, along with high risk suburban centres.
In Phase 2 we will look at the remaining district and suburban centres, identify their social distancing needs and apply measures.
