vaccines and regular testing are the best way to protect everyone from COVID-19 so we can do the things we love, with the people we love.

Bus travel

We have been working in partnership with our local bus operators to ensure public bus services are safe and compliant with the latest guidance from government.

We encourage you to plan your journeys in advance and always check before you travel for up to date information:

Face coverings

Wearing a face covering is compulsory for all travellers over 11 unless you are exempt on medical grounds by law. Passengers should also wash hands regularly and carrying hand sanitiser is recommended.

Yellow Buses has provided advice on face coverings and advice on who is exempt and how to request a Journey Assistance Card passengers can to show drivers.

More Buses also offer advice on exemptions and a digital Helping Hand assistance card.

Bus passes

Concessionary bus passes are subject to normal terms and conditions. Bus pass holders should try to make their journeys at quieter times throughout the day where possible.

Services are often busy immediately after 9:30am when free travel for pass holders starts on weekdays.

Reducing risk for bus users and drivers

We're working with operators to put measures in place which help bus users and drivers minimise contact and contain the virus.

  • Bus companies are carrying out an increased cleaning regime
  • Double decker buses will be used where possible to provide more space between passengers. Seating arrangements may change in order to meet any update to government guidelines.
  • Protective screens in the driver area of some buses for the protection of both passengers and the drivers
  • Bus stations and stands - adjustments are already underway to Poole Bus Station to relocate some stands to help maintain social distancing. Work is due to start in Gervis Place and the Travel Interchange in Bournemouth.

Please use cashless contact payments where possible.

The More Bus enquiry office at Poole bus station and Yellow Buses enquiry office at Avenue Road Bournemouth are closed. You can still contact them for help with enquiries via social media or their websites. Their phone lines are also open.

The BCP Council travel information office at Bournemouth Rail and Coach Station is currently closed.
