Transition to secondary and senior schools
Primary, junior and middle schools across BCP Council are working with children that are about to transition to secondary and senior schools.
Moving onto a new school can be both an exciting and worrying time for pupils and parents. The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic means that children at the end of their time in a school setting have not experienced transition preparations in the usual way.
However primary and secondary schools have worked closely together to ensure transition into the next phase of education is as smooth as possible.
Many schools have moved their transition information online. Headteachers and heads of year have posted videos to welcome children to their new school setting and have shared information about the transition process with families.
Secondary schools are also working with families without access to the internet, to support socially distanced school visits.
If your child is concerned about the transition to secondary school, we recommend the YoungMinds transition activity Find Your Feet.
Dorset Healthcare has put together a video about moving on to secondary school.
