Bounce Back Challenge Fund

The Bounce Back Challenge Fund (BBCF) was an innovative scheme that looked to engage with the business community and fund their ideas to help Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole bounce back from the pandemic.

The BBCF was a separate strand of the Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) Stream 3 in that it was a competitive process designed to unearth different concepts from as wide a profile as possible. It was open to all size and type of business (including charities) within the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area and irrespective of whether they had received any other funding/grants.

There were two tiers of financial award:

  • Up to £15,000 – for smaller projects or individual business ideas
  • Up to £70,000 – for larger projects which can include partnership or cross-sector working

Full details on eligibility were available from the Additional Restrictions Grant Scheme document, which was developed using the ARG guidance for Local Authorities.

All submitted project proposals were assessed against a publicly available scoring matrix  within the following categories:

  • helping the economy bounce back
  • pride in place
  • innovation
  • deliverability.

The grant scheme opened to applications on 19 April 2021 and closed on 7 May 2021.

Background checks

All applicants needed to self-certify that their business was not in financial difficulty, was based in the BCP region and was aware of their obligation to provide details of any previous grants received.

Separately, BCP Council conducted its own background checks on all applications regardless of whether or not they were successful. This included a National Fraud Initiative (NFI) check, which is a data matching exercise that helps prevent and detect fraud.

Awarded businesses

BCP Council received 320 competitive applications. Once all had been assessed, 109 local BCP based businesses were successfully awarded a Bounce Back Challenge Fund with grants ranging from £1,400 to £70,000. In total, £3,129,095.39 was awarded through this grant scheme.

Below are details of the successful applications including details of the grant amount they received, and the project work they undertook to deliver.
