The proposed area is shown in the map below and covers the preceding authority area of Bournemouth Borough Council, excluding the parish of Throop and Holdenhurst. It is located on the coast within the larger urban authority of Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole Council and within the historic county of Dorset. Bournemouth is the largest town within Dorset and is also the largest retail centre. It’s a very popular tourist destination with seven miles of sandy beaches and award winning parks and gardens. It’s also a draw for leisure and conference activities with the Bournemouth International Centre, Pavilion Theatre and BH2 cinema complex. The area also has a Championship football team – AFC Bournemouth - who are aiming to regain their place in the Premier League this season. Bournemouth is a significant centre for employment with a larger than average financial services, leisure and a growing technology and creative sectors. Firms employing large numbers of staff include several financial firms JP Morgan, Ageas, Vitality and Nationwide. The area also hosts the Bournemouth Air Festival which attracts thousands of visitors to the town each year.
