Bournemouth – a bold, confident, proud coastline of opportunity

Bournemouth sits in the centre of a south coast city region that stretches in a continuous 15-mile arc, from the twelfth century port of Poole through Bournemouth to the Anglo-Saxon town of Christchurch.

You can see the train station to the right whilst Lansdowne runs through to the cliff tops overlooking the beach and sea.

The Square

Bournemouth's Square connects the Lower Gardens to the Upper Gardens, the Triangle to the beach and the BCP Civic Centre to the whole of the town centre.

Bournemouth University

Bournemouth University gained university status in 1992 and in 2011 it was awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for ‘world-class computer animation teaching, with wide scientific and creative applications’.

To mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in 2022, towns across the UK were invited to bid for city status. Bournemouth deserves and desires city status, not just in recognition of its position and accomplishments to date, but also as a springboard to help it to achieve its bold, confident and proud ambitions for the future.
