Chatterbooks and Backchat reading groups

Chatterbooks reading clubs help children build a lifelong reading habit.

Chatterbooks started in 2001 and is now the UK's largest network of children's reading groups. Almost 9,000 children belong to Chatterbooks groups, which are run in libraries and schools to generate discussion and encourage children to enjoy reading.

Joining a group is an opportunity for children to meet new friends, chat about books, take part in games and competitions and meet authors and illustrators.

Backchat reading groups follow on from Chatterbooks into the 11 plus age range, with participants helping staff plan sessions and taking part in a variety of book-related social events.
