Alum Chine is a Blue Flag beach and the largest of Bournemouth’s four chines.

There are beach guidelines to follow so that everyone can enjoy Bournemouth's beaches.

Parking

Alum Chine car park has 5 disabled spaces and is a 200 metre gentle sloping walk to the beach.

Public transport

The nearest train station is Parkstone (3 miles) or Bournemouth (3.2 miles).

Cycling

Cycling is allowed, but pedestrians have priority. Keep your speed below 10mph and follow seasonal restrictions in place for July and August on seafront promenades and paths to avoid on-the-spot fines.

Accessibility

Seafront unisex wheelchair-accessible toilets with RADAR key access, next to the children’s playpark.

Dogs

From 1 May to 30 September, dogs are not allowed on Alum Chine’s main beach and must be kept on a lead on the promenade, paths and zig zags at all times.

The nearest year-round dog friendly beach area is from the Western side of the Alum Chine Beach Office to Branksome Dene Chine, Poole. Remember to pick up after your dog.

Barbecues

You can have a disposable barbecue on Bournemouth beaches between 6pm and 10.30pm, read the barbecue guide before you plan one.

Douse disposable barbecues with water after use and leave them next to the rubbish bins on the promenade for our beach cleansing team to collect once they have cooled down. Please dispose of all other rubbish in the bins provided.

To reduce waste, try one of the electric barbecue hotplates available at various seafront locations.

Open fires

Open fires are not permitted on any of our beaches at any time. You may be prosecuted if you attempt to light an open fire.

Camping

Camping is not permitted on any of our beaches at any time. You may be prosecuted if you attempt to camp anywhere along the seafront.
