How to pay your Council Tax bill

You can pay your Council Tax by Direct Debit, online, on the phone, by cheque, at a bank or post office.

Direct Debit

Direct Debit is the safest and most convenient way to pay your Council Tax. We offer a choice of payment dates: 1st, 15th or 25th day of each month.

Setup or change an existing Direct Debit:

Paying online

You can pay online with a debit card or credit card:

If you use this method, it will show on your bank statement as ‘On-line payment - BCP Council’.

By phone

You can make a payment by calling our 24-hour payment line. Simply listen to the options and pick the one that you wish to pay for. We take debit cards and credit cards. You’ll need your Council Tax reference - this can be found on your bill in the top right-hand corner.

Request 12 monthly payments

To request making 12 monthly payments from April through to March, please contact us.


We cannot accept cash in person or via post. To pay by cheque, it must be made payable to BCP Council, and have your Council Tax reference written on the back.
