Durley Environmental Innovation Hub
The Durley Environmental Innovation Hub is a ground-breaking concept – an inspiring, new public education destination dedicated to achieving a step-change in reducing waste and eliminating single-use packaging along Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole’s beautifulsea front.
Funded with £2.4 million from the Coastal Communities Fund, the hub will allow both residents and our millions of visitors to explore and understand the environmental impacts of packaging, waste and climate change on our fragile coasts and seas.
We remove around 2,000 tons of waste from Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole’s beaches every year, and the hub will take a lead on recycling in public spaces and will be a centre of focus for BCP Council’s efforts to educate and change behaviours along the seafront. This development will be built to high environmental standards, taking into consideration the whole lifecycle of the building.
We are targeting a zero-carbon strategy for the education building, and we are developing interactive displays in collaboration with both Bournemouth University and the University of Southampton.
