Overview

Home care helps people who find it difficult to cope in their home.

To apply, or for more information, get in touch with our Adult Social Care Contact Centre if you:

  • are elderly
  • have a physical disability
  • have a mental health illness
  • have a learning disability
  • care for someone who is older or disabled

How home care helps

Home care helps you to meet your needs with a range of personal and practical support including:

  • getting up and going to bed
  • bathing or showering
  • going to the toilet
  • preparing meals
  • eating and drinking

Assessment of need

Once you’ve spoken to us, a care manager or social worker will visit you at home to work out how we can meet your needs. We call this an assessment of need. There’s no charge for this assessment.

Assessment of finance

If home care can meet your needs, we’ll visit you again to help you find out if you can receive help with the cost of care.

Paying for home care

Based on the financial assessment, we set a personal budget and this money can be used to pay a recommended agency for the care you need.

You can also use the personal budget to arrange and fund your own care at home from an agency. You can do this if:

  • you prefer to make your own care arrangements
  • your needs are not eligible for our support
  • your funds mean you do not qualify for financial assistance
