Overview

‘Care and support’ is the help some adults need to live as independently as possible regardless of age, illness or disability. It may include:

  • help to get out of bed, wash, dress, get to work, cook, eat, see friends, care for families and be part of the community
  • emotional support at a time of difficulty and stress
  • help for people caring for an adult family member or friend

Care and support includes the help given by family and friends, as well as any provided by us or other organisations.

Wellbeing

Wellbeing is being comfortable, healthy and happy. Wellbeing can be affected for many of us at some point in our lives, due to illness, disability and/or age.

Any decisions about your care and support will consider your wellbeing and what is important to you and your family, helping you to stay healthy and remain independent for longer.

Find out who is eligible for social support, how we assess your needs, how to apply for care and support and whether you will need to pay for adult social care services.

Only people with less than £23,250 in assets and on low incomes can get help with care and support costs. The amount they receive will depend on an assessment of their finances and personal circumstances. We will look at their assets and income to decide how much, if anything, they can afford to pay towards the cost of their care and support.
